Celebrating Canadian Roots Through Thoughtful Sourcing
Master Chocolat's Dedication to Canadian Quality
At Master Chocolat, we take immense pride in being a Canadian chocolate company rooted in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. With the current political climate and the recent tariffs imposed by the U.S., we know many of our customers are more committed than ever to supporting Canadian-made products. We want to share how we stay true to our Canadian identity through thoughtful ingredient sourcing.
An overwhelming 95% of our ingredients are sourced from outside the U.S., with nearly all of them purchased through Canadian suppliers. Our chocolate itself comes from the Dominican Republic and Peru, then is processed in Italy, before being shipped directly to us through our Fair-Trade partner.
We also make it a priority to source from a variety of regions worldwide, ensuring both quality and sustainability. For example, the hazelnuts used in our beloved Hedgehogs come from Turkey or Spain. Another fan favourite, our Chewy Pecan Caramel, features pecans that are grown in Mexico and sugar sourced from Paraguay or Brazil. All our dairy used in production within our facility is also proudly Canadian.
We take pride in supporting local producers, which is why we are pleased to say that all of our dairy is sourced from the farmers of our home province of Alberta! In addition to ingredient sourcing, we’re proud to say that all of our packaging is currently purchased in Canada as well!
Navigating Exceptions
That said, there are a few exceptions to our Canadian-focused ingredients list. One U.S.-sourced product is our organic almonds and pistachios, as they are both grown in California. Even then, they are prepared in Canada and distributed through a Canadian-based company.
We are also actively seeking alternate suppliers for these minimal U.S.-sourced ingredients to further strengthen our Canadian supply chain.
We understand how important it is for our customers to know where their food comes from, and we hope our commitment to transparency gives you confidence in choosing our small Canadian chocolate business! Bernard remains deeply involved in selecting only the best ingredients - from knowing their quality and origin, to auditing and quality control, all of which are essential to the taste and excellence of our chocolates.
Master Chocolat is proudly Canadian, and we will continue prioritizing Canadian suppliers as much as possible. Thank you for your on-going support.
